JAMMU June 14: Minister for Planning and Development, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today reviewed the supply position of power and drinking water in Jammu region and asked engineers to ensure best possible service within given resources keeping in view the unprecedented climatic conditions.
Addressing a high level meeting here this evening, the Minister took stock of constraints in meeting the growing demand of power and called for evolving a mechanism wherein maximum respite is provided to the people.
While stressing the need for reactivating round the clock help-lines in various areas, the Minister asked the departmental heads to gear up field staff for taking immediate cognizance of the problems faced to the people. He hoped that the people will cooperate in making judicious use of power and drinking water. He asked PDD and PHE to work in tandem for ensuring drinking water to the people.
“Tanker service should also be intensified to meet the needs of people on account of drinking water”, he maintained.
The Minister reviewed the steps taken for ensuring distribution of paddy seeds and other inputs among the farmers besides ensuring irrigational facilities in various areas. On irrigational facilities in particular, the Minister exhorted the officers to gear up field units for meeting the requirements of the farming community.
He also assessed availability of various essentials, regulation of transport and maintaining of health and hygiene. He called for intensifying vigil in the markets to foil the attempts of unscrupulous elements and profiteers.
Sadhotra was briefed about the demand and supply of power, drinking water and other essentials and steps taken to ensure replacement of damaged transformers in minimum possible time.
Reviewing arrangements being made for this year’s Amarnathji Yatra, the Minister called for synergy between various service providing departments to ensure that the incoming pilgrims did not face any difficulties. He also emphasized the role of private players in making the Yatra a success.
Those present in the meeting included Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Director tourism, senior officers of PDD, PHE and Irrigation Departments.
