JAMMU, June 24: All J&K Sikh Unity Forum has urged the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to ensure permanent settlement of PoK refugees languishing in J&K and other places.
In a meeting of the Forum held here today, its members alleged that State Government has completely failed to in ensuring one time comprehensive/ permanent settlement of PoK refuges. They are still leading a miserable life. The Congress and other political parties have only given assurances but nothing was done to mitigate their sufferings in past many decades. They demanded Rs 50 lakh compensation per family.
They also demanded representation to the Sikh members in legislature and other positions. Forum stressed for representation to the members from rural areas, implementation of Ansari Commission Report regarding 1989 riots in Jammu, 3% reservation to Lobana Sikh community in Govt jobs, special recruitment drive for the youth of PoK Refugees, allotment of special funds for development of refugee bastis like Simbal Camp, Bhour Camp, Gole Gujral etc.
The Forum members further demanded that Government should declare transport sector as Transport Industry because majority of Sikh community of PoK refugees is dependent on transport service. Prominent among those present in the meeting included Gurdeep Singh, Nirmal Singh, Balbir Singh, Tajinder Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Manohar Singh, Ch Dev Raj, Bodh Raj, Dr Tarlok Singh and Balwant Singh.
