MENDHAR, Mar 28: In a major operation, involving Sub Divisional  administration, an old encroachment on nearly 250 kanals of  Govt land   at Gohlad near Mendhar was removed.
On the basis of general public complaints and the directions of Deputy Commissioner Poonch, MH Malik, a strong contingent of police and Revenue officials   led by SDM Mendhar, Th Sher Singh and assisted by  SDPO Shahid Nahim today organised a major anti-encroachment operation and cleared nearly 250 kanal land which had been grabbed by about a dozen villagers.
They had also raised six structures on this land falling under Khasra No. 1061/ 1396 and some other areas. Some of them had    grabbed this land for the last about 20 years. They had also covered village common land and other State land.
Though locals showed some resistance at the beginning but the strong police contingent and officers accompanying them asked the land grabbers to stay away. They also told them that they will be arrested if tried to restrict Government action.
This is for the first time that such a major anti-encroachment operation was launched in the area. The SDM directed Tehsildar to Salam Din to ensure that this land is not re-grabbed again by the villagers. The SDM said that 3-4 more such major operations will be launched in Mendhar shortly as some land was under the illegal occupation of some politicians as well. The general public has widely appreciated the action of Mendhar Administration.
