JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Jan 28 : Authorities today retrieved encroached land from two former Ministers including Dr Haseeb Drabu and Prem Sagar Aziz and DDC Kathua Chairman Col (Retd) Mahan Singh.
Over 100 kanals of land, which was illegally occupied by former Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu, kin of ex-MLC and others, was retrieved during the ongoing eviction drive in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
An official said that around 100 kanals of land that was illegally occupied has been retrieved in the district today.
He said of total 100 kanals of land, 15 kanals high-value orchard land was illegally occupied by former Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu and the kin of ex-MLC.
He said that anti-encroachment drives are going on across Shopian and today 40 shops were sealed in main town, adding that encroached land has been retrieved from highly influenced encroachers including former FM and kin of ex-MLC.
Meanwhile, acting tough and tightening its noose on the land encroachers, district administration, Kathua today retrieved more than 35 kanals of State land from encroachers during an anti-encroachment drive in Basohli tehsil.
According to official sources, during the drive, a total of 35 kanals and six marlas of Sate land was retrieved from encroachment including 03 kanals, 14 marlas from the occupation of Prem Sagar Aziz, ex MoS in previous PDP and Congress Government in Plahi, 09 kanals 15 marla in Plakh from District Development Council Chairman, Kathua Col (retd) Mahan Singh, six kanals and eight marlas in Pretha from the son of a retired Government servant besides 15 kanals and 9 marlas in Plahi from other illegal occupants.
An official handout issued here today said the land retrieved is of high value worth Rs 2. 41 crore in Basohli Sub Division. The drive was launched by the Revenue Department officials along with Basohli police.
Pertinently, the Kathua administration has activated men and machinery on mission mode to evict the illegal occupants and retrieve the State land.
