SRINAGAR: An encounter broke out today between militants and security forces in Shopian district.
Security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in Wanipora area of Shopian following information about the presence of militants there, a police official said.
He said the search operation turned into an encounter after militants opened fire on security forces.
So far, there was no report of any casualty, the official said, adding that the operation was going on when reports last came in. (AGENCIES)
