JAMMU, Feb 18: The ongoing 15 days long SaMaPa Aalap Festival (SAF) 2014 on Day 9 featured a special session conceived and designed for the local residents, students and yatris at Katra.
The enchanting recitals were witnessed by a large number of people held at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Spiritual Growth Centre, Katra combining classical instrumental – Violin, Sufi Vocal and Dogri Folk music presentations which came as a real treat to the listeners.
The programme began with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony by Anil Sharma, Deputy CEO, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), Shri Neeraj Gupta, CAO, Pankaj Sharma and Pankaj Gupta, Dy CEOs, SMVDSB, Pt Vijay Shankar Mishra, eminent music critic and musicologist and Vice President SaMaPa and music maestro Abhay Rustum Sopori. SAF 2014, the premier music festival of J&K and one of the biggest music festivals of the country, is being presented by SaMaPa (Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts) in collaboration with SMVDSB, Jammu & Kashmir Police and Department of Tourism, Jammu.
The concert commenced with a scintillating Violin recital by Vidushi Kala Ramnath, one of India’s finest Violinists and Grammy Award nominee who presented Vilambit and Drutlaya Teentaal in Raga Shudh Sarang demonstrating a fine balance of Gayaki and Tantrakari Ang in her recital. The audience was mesmerized with her presentation and Sawal Jawab paterns with Pt. Mithilesh Jha on Tabla. This was followed by soulful Dogri folk presentation by one of the senior artists and renowned folk singers of Jammu and Kashmir Ms. Krishna Kumari. She was accompanied by Shubash Kumar on Tabla, Rakesh Deol on Harmonium, Jagmeet Singh on Guitar, Sunil Sharma on Flute and supported on vocals by Dr. Chanchal Sharma and G.R. Malhotra.
She commenced her recital with the Ganesh Vandana “Jai Ho Sri Ganesh” followed by a Baakh “Jaali Jai Pahadiye Da Desh” and Maata Ke Bhaint “Janam Janam Tak Hai Jagdambey”. The programme concluded with enchanting Sufi renditions by the young Sufi Songstress Ragini Rainu, one of the best Sufi singers of the country, who took the audience into a trance with her renditions.
Earlier, maestro Abhay Rustum Sopori spoke on the occasion and highlighted the vision of SaMaPa in preserving and propagating the rich cultural heritage J&K State.
