SRINAGAR, Feb 23: The employees of Government Press, Srinagar have decided to observe one hour weekly token strike in order to raise their protest over the Government proposal to shift Government Press to Sempora-Pampore in Pulwama district.
In a statement, Abdul Rashid Thakur, Publicity Secretary, Government Press Employees Association (GPEA) said that the decision to carry out the token strike was taken during a meeting chaired by Syed Muzamil Razvi, President GPEA Srinagar. The participants of the meeting urged Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and Minister for Stationery and Printing, Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma to intervene in the matter and get the proposal scrapped.
Addressing the meeting, Razvi said that the decision to shift the press premises to Sempora would lead to loss to the State ex-chequer and as such it should be deferred once for all. He said the employees would continue their struggle as long as the decision is not dropped by the Government.
