JAMMU, Dec 27 While police lifted the ReT teachers sitting on hunger strike outside Press Club of Jammu here today, several employees’ and other bodies condemned the police lathicharge on Education Volunteers and ReT teachers in Jammu on Wednesday.
A group of nearly 100 teachers led by Vinod Sharma, which tried to launch indefinite hunger strike outside Press Club of Jammu here were lifted by police. The offices bearers of the J&K ReT Teachers’ Forum alleged that as they sat on peaceful dharna near Press Club a police party led by SHO Nawabad arrived there and started abusing and dragging them from the venue. All the teachers were forcibly lifted and made to flee by cops. They alleged that Government was trying to suppress the voice of the teachers. It was not democracy but dictatorship in J&K and all the Human Rights bodies were behaving like mute spectators, the agitating teachers alleged.
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (J&K) has strongly condemned the police lathi-charge on peacefully demonstrating ReT teachers and Education Volunteers in Jammu on Wednesday. Senior leader of the BMS Karnail Chand in a press statement alleged that Government instead of resolving the genuine issues of the hapless workers was resorting to use of brutal force which is unjustified and shameful. He said Government is giving minimum wages as Rs 110 per day while EVs are being paid Rs 1000 per month and ReTs Rs 1500 which is great injustice and exploitation of human beings.
All Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh Teachers Federation in a meeting strongly condemned the police lathi-charge on the agitating teachers in Jammu on Wednesday and demanded action against the SP Shailender Kumar and SHO Jaipal. The Federation leaders Balwan Singh Jamwal, Manga Ram Sharma, Bhushan Verma, Mohan Singh, Raj Kumar and others alleged that Government was trying to gag the employees projecting their demands. While supporting teachers’ cause, they urged the Government to give due attention towards the genuine demands of the ReTs and Education Volunteers.
Meanwhile, Jammu Kashmir Democratic Front (JKDF) president Anil Gupta strongly condemned the brutal use of force and lathicharge on the ReT teachers and EVs in Jammu during protest march. In a statement Mr Gupta alleged that Government deliberately used the force to suppress the voice of the employees. Such use of brutal force is an attempt to debar the people to exercise their democratic rights in peaceful manner, he maintained.
