Election verdict

Sir,
BJP holds every authority to rejoice over its magnificent victories in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. But by which yardstick can the these results be projected as a referendum in favour of Narendra Modi and the Central Government? When BJP had got drastically vanquished in the Assembly elections of Delhi and Bihar, BJP and its blind supporters in the media had defined it as “local matter” bearing no relation with Modi or NDA Government at the Centre. But when two states overwhelmingly vote for BJP, promptly it gets dubbed as a “mandate in favour of Modi and NDA”! What a classic case of “Head I Win, Tail You Lose” syndrome!
Technically BJP has won 2 and  lost 3. And all three losses are against none other than their bete-noire  Congress and in 2 of these states, BJP was enjoying power which makes their loss more disgraceful. So if Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand victories get dubbed as  “mandate in favour of Modi and NDA”; then results in Punjab and Goa should serve as “referendum against Modi and his regime”!
However, if neutrality is allowed to win the day, then one and only Manipur has served the nation a surprise. BJP has won Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand previously. It had fared very well in those two states in 2014 Lok Sabha polls too. Not to forget that anti-incumbency factor was also at play. So there exists no element of surprise in it. But bagging as many as 21 seats in Manipur (from zero in 2012), that too by fighting against the incumbent Congress, is indeed a major achievement of BJP. Yes, victories in Assembly elections in two states hold no bearing with performance at the Centre. Losses in elections in two states where the party was in power call for a serious introspection. So if BJP and its patrons desire to genuinely rejoice upon any concrete platform, then it gets provided by the Manipur results only.
Yours etc….
