NEW DELHI: Elders in Rajya Sabha on Friday demanded that the Government distribute free masks in the wake of coronavirus pandemic as the prices of normal masks have increased manifold.
Raising this issue, CPM Member Binoy Viswam said that the prices of the normal masks have shot up manifold. The affluent sections of society can afford it but not the poor and marginalised sections. A daily wage labourer, who is as vulnerable to this pandemic as a rich person is, cannot buy the mask for his family or self.
”I request the Government to distribute these masks free of cost to the public along with other essential medications, including hand sanitizers”.
Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said, ”We all need to be careful and take precautions so that that this could be prevented in better way”.
”Due to climatic condition of our country, we are in a better position compared to other countries”, he said. Many Members of the House requested to be associated with Mr Vishwam on this issue. (AGENCIES)
