JAMMU, May 25: Up in arms against denial of old age pension for the last three months, aggrieved elderly women held a protest in front of the office of District Social Welfare Officer, Jammu on Thursday.
The aggrieved women were carrying placards and raising slogans for seeking old-age pension, which has been stopped for the last three months for no reasons.
The elderly women said that despite completion of all the required formalities, they have been asked to get Below Poverty Line (BPL) Certificate for being eligible to get the Old age pension.
“But no one is ready to tell us from where to get these BPL cards as we have been making rounds of the concerned Government offices with zero result,” they said, adding that they have all the required documents, but there was no one to listen to them.
On the other hand, Director Social Welfare Mamta Rajput claimed that the Directorate was extending all possible assistance to the applicants for Old age pension. So far we have received around 42 thousand online applications, which have been forwarded for necessary action, she added.
