EJAC demands regularization of all daily wagers

SRINAGAR, June 28: Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) has reiterated its demand of regularization of daily wagers and other types of casual labourers.
The issue was discussed during in a meeting of EJAC held here today under the chairmanship of its president, Fayaz Ahmad Shabnam. The meeting was attended by all the leaders of EJAC as well the heads of departmental organizations.
In the meeting, a threadbare discussion was held regarding the regularization of daily wagers, casual labourers, ITI workers, NHM employees, seasonal workers and various types of temporary workers/employees. It was observed that majority of the daily wagers have been working in the various departments for more than 25 years and is yet to be regularized.
“They are the frontline warriors in every calamity that has befallen over the people of J&K and are working on the same parameters and capabilities as that of regular employees. Despite that they are paid a meagre salary with which they are not able to make their two ends meet and have also reached on the brink of starvation,” the leaders observed.
They highlighted that even though the previous Governments made various agreements with the EJAC leadership regarding the regularization of daily wagers but unfortunately till now no positive result arose in this regard. It was unanimously decided that EJAC will continue to struggle and fight for the genuine rights and demands of daily wagers and other types of casual labourers.
It was also decided that if the Government fails to take some immediate and concrete steps regarding the regularization of daily wagers and other types of casual labourers, EJAC will be compelled to issue a protest program and will come out on streets for their genuine demands. It was unanimously decided that the first peaceful protest in this regard will be held on July 6 in front of Civil Secretariat on the day offices in Srinagar Secretariat will open.
