Refer news item ‘Ladakh gets Eco-Tourism Award’ DE Feb 9. The ‘‘Best Responsible Tourism Project’’ award conferred on Leh district underlines the fact that tourism sector can flourish further if eco-friendly steps are taken at the same time when we lure more tourist towards tourist destinations.
The Leh district administration being fully aware of the impact of pollution on environment has taken several initiatives to check the degradation of this beautiful region. The ban on polythene bags and plastic bottles is helping the region in maintaining its natural ambience. These small steps have created a goodwill among the tourists. Besides, the plantation drive launched by Ladakhis after cloudburst aftermath has given a new dimension to Ladakh ecology. People have woken up to the necessity of maintaining ecological balance. Though a beginning has made, it may take some time before all people will realize the importance of having a pollution free environment.
