JAMMU, Dec 13: Election Commission today reviewed preparations for the fourth phase of polling in four districts of Jammu and Kashmir tomorrow.
The four districts which are going to poll in this phase are Samba, Anantnag, Shopian and Srinagar.
Deputy Election Commissioner Vinod Zutshi today reviewed the poll preparedness in four districts of the state with Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jammu and Kashmir Umang Narula, District Election Officers (DEOs) concerned, SSPs and election observers through video conferencing, an official spokesman said.
During the hour-long video conferencing, Zutshi called for adequate security steps for the safety of people.
He said security of the people is of paramount importance and all necessary steps need to be put in place in all these districts. He stressed on the need for a well thought-out strategy to ensure free, fair and transparent poll, according to the spokesman.
The Deputy Election Commissioner (DEC) called for special steps in the vulnerable areas where there is apprehension of disturbance.
Civil and police administration must work with close coordination to ensure a conducive atmosphere around the polling stations, he said.
He said adequate number of security personnel be deployed to restore the confidence of electors so that they can cast their votes without any threat and fear and called for necessary contingency plans to meet any kind of exigencies.
Expressing satisfaction over the turnouts in the previous three phases, Zutshi said voting percentages in all the districts were very encouraging and it is hoped that same enthusiasm will be maintained by the electors during the fourth phase.
He also lauded the efforts of the state machinery for conducting incident-free elections and called for maintaining the same spirit during the next two phases. (Agencies)
