EC orders FIR against TV Channels airing Rahul’s interview

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission of India on Wednesday directed the Chief Electoral Officer of Gujarat to file FIR against TV Channels, which aired Congress president-elect Rahul Gandhi’s interview, citing violation of model code of conduct.

The Election Commission also asked TV Channels to stop airing the interview with immediate effect, an official release said. The Commission had acted upon the complaints submitted by the Gujarat Unit and Central leadership of the ruling BJP, who alleged that Mr Gandhi’s interview had violated the code of conduct.

The Election Commission said that it had received reports and complaints that some TV channels in Gujarat had displayed the interview given by Mr Gandhi on the Gujarat Assembly election, which is scheduled to be held tomorrow.  (AGENCIES)
