EC expresses concern over impact of pollution on environment

SRINAGAR, May 25: The Committee on Environment of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly headed by G.  M. Saroori has expressed serious concern over the pollution and its impact on environment in the State.
The Committee which met here today discussed threadbare the measures to be taken to control the pollution. It decided to seek detailed report from the Pollution Control Board about the measures taken for the purpose. The Committee decided to call Pollution Control Board and Environment Departments in the next meeting of the Committee.
Legislators Shamima Firdous, Abdul Majid Larmi, Altaf Ahmad Wani, Muhammad Amin Bhat, Deleep Singh, Dr. Krishan Lal, Muhammad Abbas Wani, Aijaz Ahmad Mir, Neelan Kumar Langeh, Davinder Kumar Manyal, Gulzar Ahmad Wani, Dr. Gagan Bhagat and Anjum Fazili attended the meeting.
Legislators suggested that brick kilns, use of polythene, garbage, waste management, mixing  and use of K-Oil in vehicles etc  needs to be checked for which they suggested various measures. They unanimously said that the court directions in respect of cutting of yellow poplar needs to be implemented with letter and spirit as these poplars are not only dangerous for environment but are unsafe for human health also.
Earlier, Secretary Legislative Assembly M. Ramzan briefed newly nominated members of the Committee about its way of working.
