JAMMU, Jan 8: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh today directed for speeding up the work on the several prestigious road projects being undertaken in Jammu division so that the connectivity of the area gets requisite boost besides also shortening the travel time for the commuters.
The Deputy Chief Minister was addressing officers during a review meeting convened to discuss the status of new road projects like Dayalachak-Challan-Udhampur, Lakhanpur-Basohli and the important Jammu-Akhnoor four laning.
Commissioner/ Secretary, R&B, Sanjeev Verma, Chief Engineers (R&B), senior officers of National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and consulting agency RODIC were present in the meeting.
While asking for speeding up the work on the prestigious Akhnoor-Jammu four laning , the Deputy Chief Minister said that it is one of the prestigious projects with regard to increasing the connectivity and moderating the traffic flow in Jammu city and we have to ensure that the 30.7 km stretch is completed within the shortest possible time. He said that the various departments should synergise their activity with the Project Implementing Unit (PIU), NHIDCL so that the bottlenecks if any are removed and the project gets completed within the stipulated time frames.
“Jammu – Akhnoor four laning project will be vital to the overall transport system of the Jammu region as it would also be cutting the travel time needed for going to other districts like Rajouri and Poonch, besides increasing the overall mobility and checking the traffic congestion in the city especially during the peak hours”, maintained the Deputy Chief Minister. He said that several other projects stand undertaken in R&B sector in the State which would increase the intra and interstate connectivity giving fillip to economic, tourism and related activities.
The Deputy Chief Minister while directing for ensuring that the pace of the work on the important Dayalachak-Challan, Udhampur, Lakhanpur-Basohli roads is speeded up maintained that the 134 km road would serve as an alternative highway to the people coming from different parts of the country besides also ensuring accelerated development of the areas. He said that the development of these will also ensure that the inter connectivity of the different areas of these two districts is also increased.
Earlier, the Deputy Chief Minister paid a surprise visit to check the status of work on the upcoming Jammu Bus Stand project at B.C. Road.
While inspecting the project, the Deputy Chief Minister directed for expediting the pace of work on this prestigious programme and directed the concerned to ensure that it is completed within the stipulated time frame. He said that it will go a long way in providing quality infrastructural facilities to the people.
