Dy CM reviews flood relief, rehabilitation

JAMMU, Sept 20: Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand today chaired a review meeting and assessed pace and progress of different departments involved in relief and rehabilitation of those who have been hit hard due to recent incessant rains.
He said the state has witnessed large scale devastation in the natural calamity and time bound restoration and rehabilitation is need of the hour.
Laying emphasis on ensuring time bound relief and restoration, Tara Chand directed the officers to categorise the works on short term and long term basis, adding that priority should be given to those works which require immediate attention. Assessment work should be prioritized so that the Government can be projected with real image and magnitude of the damage the area had suffered, he added.
“Officers should speed up the assessment work and a realistic report should be made keeping in view the ground realities of the damage,” he emphasized.
He said all those departments who are involved in the relief and rehabilitation should work in complete harmony with each other so as to ensure that problems of the affected people are addressed without delay.
He directed the SDM to monitor weekly progress of the relief and rehabilitation works of each department and no delay on this part would be tolerated.
He said plans for relief and restoration have to be formulated keeping in view the exigency of the works and all out efforts should be made to reach out to those who have been hit hard by the devastating floods.
Calling upon CAPD authorities to immediately start distribution of ration, the Deputy Chief Minister said the Government’s decision to provide free ration to those affected should be implemented and people should not face hardships due to non-availability of ration items.
