JAMMU, June 28: Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) has expressed concern over the two drone attacks at Satwari Airport and Kaluchak and described it as new threat and challenge for the security agencies.
In a press statement here, president of the DSS, Gulchain Singh Charak urged people from all walks of life to stay alert and stand in solidarity with our armed forces and the Government. That seems to be the end of ceasefire urged for and announced by Pakistan. Members commented angrily calling for punitive action against Pakistan.
Distinguished veteran warrior and Defence expert Col Dr Virendra Sahi, informed that there is an integrated Air Defence Command in the country for air space management that needs to upgrade the Air-Defence system at Airports near the borders. J&K has been facing enemy drones menace for some time now for smuggling drugs, weapons across IB in Samba and Rajouri Sectors. This attack has given it a new dimension.
Col Sahi suggested use of jammers near vital installations and sensitive equipment. It was also pointed out that Pakistan could have used newly acquired drones bought from China. The possibility of smuggling the drones in the border area and attack from within our soil was also not ruled out. There are many new settlements and more than two storied buildings around Satwari airport against the laid down Cantt Board rules that overlook the Airport. The take off, landing path beyond the runway is also very sensitive and vulnerable. Some of these settlements are housing unlawfully settled Bangladeshis and Rohangiyas, Col Sahi added.
Charak expressed concern over the repeated cases of suicide by frustrated youth by jumping from various bridges on Tawi river. He recommended the Municipal Committee to raise protective wire mashing on the side of bridges and flyovers as seen in some better cared for Cities.
DSS members reiterated their pending demand of removing the barrier from the front of Civil Secretariat which is an unnecessary sign of hegemony and cuts the city in two half. It requested for the secretariat check post to be shifted 50 Mtrs closer to the main building and open the road for free public use.
