RAJOURI, Mar 9: The District authorities have detained a chronic narcotic smuggler for public safety under Jammu and Kashmir Preventions of Illicit Traffic in Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988.
Accused detained has been identified as 27- year- old Imtiaz Ahmed, son of Ali Mohammad, resident of Karyote, Thanamandi in Rajouri district.
The accused has been found continuously active in drugs consumption and drugs trafficking in Thanamandi town and its adjoining areas and luring young boys into menace of drugs addiction.
The accused also stands booked in a case FIR No. 96/2017 under Sections 8/20 NDPS Act of Police Station, Surankote in Poonch district while for two times he was detained under 107, 151, 110 CrPC for involvement in unlawful activities while confidential reports of sister agencies also revealed about his involvement in unlawful activities especially narcotics peddling.
He also stands booked in a case FIR 184/2013 under Sections 379 RPC of Thanamandi Police Station and the challan of the case stands produced in the court of law.
Keeping in view his criminal activities, he has been detained on the orders of Divisional Commissioner Jammu after a dossier was submitted by Senior Superintendent of Police Rajouri.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Yougal Manhas said that action against people involved in drugs and narcotics peddling is a top priority for police as the menace is a grave threat for youth of the district which has the potential to lead to several other crimes.
