RAJOURI, June 9: A notorious drug- peddler of Rajouri, who was detained and jailed under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in the month of June 2022, allegedly attempted a suicide bid inside the District Jail at Dhangri on Thursday evening.
The accused has been identified as Haroon Rashid, son of Abdul Rashid, resident of Ward 2 Rajouri town, and is said to be stable. He is out of danger, according to Medical Superintendent Associated Hospital, GMC Rajouri.
Haroon attempted to cut his throat with a sharp-edged knife-type item, but was reportedly saved by those present on the spot. The staff members immediately shifted Haroon to Associated Hospital Government Medical College (AH GMC) Rajouri at about 7.20 pm.
He, with a minor cut injury, was provided immediate treatment by the doctor on duty.
Haroon Rashid was detained under PSA by the order of Divisional Commissioner Jammu after a detailed action report was submitted by the district police office Rajouri.
