Drug peddler arrested

Srinagar, June 4: Police today said it have arrested a drug peddler and recovered five kilograms of poppy straw from his possession in Qazigund area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
A police spokesman said acting on specific information the police laid a checkpoint at National Highway near command post Qazigund. “During the checking, a Tavera vehicle bearing registration number JK03B-9268 was intercepted. On checking, five kilograms of poppy Straw was recovered from the possession of a passenger identified as Darampal Singh son of Soran Singh resident of Phimi Majra, Nowshera, Punjab,” he said.
The spokesman said police have arrested the person and registered a case against him. “Further investigation was taken up,” he added.
