Srinagar, June 8: A habitual drug offender was detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act in Anantnag district as part of an ongoing crackdown against narcotics trafficking, police said today.
The detainee has been identified as Aurangzaib Bhat, son of Mohammad Akbar Bhat, a resident of Arwani, Bijbehara.
According to police, Bhat had been repeatedly involved in narcotics-related offences and continued to engage in drug trafficking despite facing legal action in the past.
He is named in several cases registered at Police Station Bijbehara, including FIR No. 64/2013 under Section 8/15 of the NDPS Act, FIR No. 75/2025 under Section 8/20 of the Act, and FIR No. 43/2026 under Section 8/21 of the Act.
Police said a detention order was obtained from the competent authority under the PIT-NDPS Act in view of his continued involvement in drug-related activities.
Following the issuance of the order, he was detained and lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu, after completion of legal formalities.
