Sir,
Refer news item, “CS for joint efforts to eradicate drug abuse” DE June 11.
As drug abuse is on the rise among the youth in the State, it is necessary that preventive measures are taken to curb the menace.
In this context, it is necessary that people are made aware of the adverse impact of drugs on society. Drugs are harming us culturally and economically. Though who are involved in this trade make a fast buck from it, it, however, gradually erodes our social structure. The suggestion that alternate crops be cultivated in place of Poppy and Hemp should be considered seriously by the Apex Committee on Prevention of Drug Trafficking and its Cultivation and the same may be communicated to farmers and those indulging in unholy business.
Besides, sustained awareness campaigns should be launched at places where cultivation of Poppy and Hemp is on a large scale. One hopes that results may come to fore at the earliest.
Yours etc…
Nazir Ahmed
