JAMMU, Jan 21: The Departmental Related Standing Committee (DRSC-IV) of Legislative Council today reviewed the functioning of Higher Education Department. Held under the chairmanship of MLC, Naresh Kumar Gupta it also reviewed the working of both the Universities of Jammu and Kashmir.
Legislators, Dr Bashir Ahmed Shah (Veeri), Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Rani Gargi Blowria, Abdul Majeed Bhat and Jugal Kishore Sharma attended the meeting and suggested further improvement in the working of the Education Department.
The committee expressed concern over the delay in construction of new Campuses of Jammu and Kashmir Universities despite availability of funds.
The Committee sought the appearance of Vice Chancellor Jammu University with regard to constructions as well as introducing new job orientated courses.
The committee also directed the Jammu University to start BEd courses from the next academic session in University Campus Bhaderwah and assured to recommend financial assistance in a meeting to meet up recurring expenditure.
The Committee directed the MD, JKPCC and Chief Engineers PWD Jammu and Kashmir to display the status of new college buildings to the Committee in its next meeting.
Secretary, Higher Education, Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmed and Registrars, Kashmir and Jammu Universities apprised the Committee about the mechanism adopted to give boost to quality education in the State.
Later, the committee held a review meeting of Co-operative Department.
Threadbare discussion was held on the overall working of the department. The Committee sought action taken report from the department and directed the concerned authority to furnish the reply of the agenda points to the Committee for scrutiny.
Secretary, Co-operative Department, R K Koul briefed the Committee about the working of the Department besides physical and financial achievements of the department.
MD, JKPCC, MD JAKFED, MD Citizen Cooperative Bank Ltd Jammu, Registrar, Cooperatives J&K, officers and officials of concerned departments and Council Secretariat also attended the meetings.
