Driver killed, 7 injured in road accidents

JAMMU, Jan 4: The driver of a load carrier was killed and seven others were injured today in separate road accidents in city outskirts.
A driver of mini-load carrier was killed when his vehicle rolled down into a deep gorge near Chowki Chora, in Kali Dhar Range on Jammu-Rajouri road this morning.
Police sources said that mishap took place at around 6. 20 AM when the mini-load carrier bearing registration JK20- 5649 was on its way to Sunderbani from Narwal Mandi, Jammu. It was loaded with vegetables. The driver Puran Chand (55), started from Jammu early in this morning at around 5 pm.
When he reached at Kalandra Morh, his vehicle rolled down into a gorge. Nobody spotted this accident immediately. At around 10 am, somebody spotted vegetables scattered in the gorge and some on the road side and later noticed a vehicle about 200 feet deep. He informed Police Post, Chowki Chora.
Incharge Police Post, SI Kuldeep Khajuria, rushed to the spot along with some cops and found the driver trapped in the wreckage of the vehicle. After tough efforts, the police retrieved the dead body from the vehicle. The deceased was later identified as Puran Chand, son of Mallapa Ram, resident of Bhambla. The dead body after post-mortem was handed over to the family. The police said that cause of accident could be mechanical fault but the driver could also be under the influence of sleep while driving.
Meanwhile, in a separate accident a speeding mini bus on way from Jourian to Akhnoor turned turtle on roadside near Kaelliwali on Sohal-Akhnoor road and also hit one stranded motorcycle bearing registration number JK02AW-9962 as well as its rider namely Uttam Kumar son of Jagmohan Verma, resident of Sohal, who got serious injuries in the mishap.
Four passengers travelling in the mini bus also sustained injuries in the mishap. The injured passengers were Yashpaul Singh (40) son of Tek Chand, Vaishno Devi (62) wife of Simru, Soma Devi (55) wife of Bishan Dass, resident of Jadh and Parmo Devi (55) wife of Sian Dass, resident of Kanachak, were rushed to the sub-district hospital, Akhnoor. All the injured were shifted to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Akhnoor for treatment and their condition was stable except motorcyclist, Uttam Chand, who was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu.
Another motorcyclist identified as Abhishek (18) son of Sohan Lal, resident of Bishnah was injured in Deoli area of Bishnah when his speeding bike bearing registration number JK02AM-4094 collided with another bike bearing registration number JK02AH-1491 near Primary School, Deoli. The rider of other bike, namely Ankush Kumar son of Janak Raj, resident of Laswara, was also injured in the mishap. Similarly, a youth identified as Ayush Gupta (18) son of Dinesh Gupta, resident of Nanak Nagar also sustained injuries, when the scooty on which he was travelling, got slipped at Channi. The injured were shifted to GMCH Jammu for treatment.
In all cases, the concerned police had taken cognizance.
