JAMMU, Jan 4: Working Committee members of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), Ankush Abrol and Rahul Mahajan inaugurated New Year Under-14 Boys Cricket Cup in an impressive and well attended function at Mayank Goswami Cricket Academy, Akhnoor Road, here today.
Prominent among others present on the inaugural ceremony were former Ranji Trophy player and coach Ravi Sharma and MGCA coach Sunil Kumar.
The Tournament is being organized by Kishan Chand Cricket Club (KCCC) with an objective to provide opportunity to the budding cricketers to hone their skill.
In the inaugural match, Mayank Goswami Cricket Academy defeated Sidhant Cricket Academy in an easy contest in this 60-overs game.
Earlier, MGCA skipper Praful Dhar won the toss and decided to field first.
Batting first, Sidhant Cricket Academy scored a paltry total of 93 runs in 38.4 overs. Keshav top scored with 31 runs, while Babu and Madhav contributed 10 and 9 runs respectively. For MGCA, Nityam Abrol was the pick of the bowlers, who scalped 4 important wickets, while Praful Dhar and Parth Singh bagged 2 wickets each and Dhruv Singh claimed one wicket.
In reply, MGCA chased the target easily in 30.5 overs by losing 3 wickets, thus won the match by 7 wickets. Snoop Bhagat top scored with 44 runs, while Samarpit contributed 22 runs to the total. Keshav took 2 wickets for Sidhant Cricket Academy. For his four wicket haul, Nityam was declared as man of the match.
The match was officiated by Sadiq Hussain Malik and Sunil Kumar as umpires, while Deepak was the scorer.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest encouraged the students and advised them to play with sporting spirit. He asked them to make full use of the opportunity provided to them.
