JAMMU, Feb 18: In a concerted effort to curb the menace of pressure horns and other traffic violations, the Traffic Police, National Highway Headquarters Ramban, launched a week-long special drive under the supervision of SSP (Traffic) NHW Ramban, Rohit Baskotra.
The initiative is being carried out on the directions of IGP Traffic, Suleman Chowdhary and DIG Traffic Range Jammu, Haseeb Mugal.
The special drive, covering Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, Udhampur, and Reasi districts, has resulted in the inspection of more than 3,000 vehicles for pressure horns and tinted glasses. As a consequence, 200 trucks, buses, and minibuses have been challaned, with fines amounting to Rs 20 lakh imposed on violators.
SSP (Traffic) NHW Ramban emphasized that the primary mission of the Traffic Police is to safeguard human lives and minimize road accidents. He urged all vehicle operators to conduct thorough checks of their vehicles before embarking on journeys and to comply with traffic rules diligently.
Furthermore, the SSP underscored the importance of quality enforcement to instill discipline among road users. Highlighting key causes of road accidents, such as mobile phone usage while driving, underage driving, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, wrong-lane driving, and unauthorized vehicle modifications, he called for collective societal efforts to address these issues.
