JAMMU, Aug 20: Focussing attention on the primordial prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases, a step beyond the concept of primary prevention Dr. Sushil Sharma, HoD Cardiology GMC Jammu in collaboration with CHILDLINE (Nodal), Department of Law, University of Jammu organised a day long health check up cum awareness camp with the children of SOS Children Village Home, Gole Gujral, Jammu. Sensing the peculiar needs and conditions of the children living in Child Care Institution, Dr. Sushil stressed on to embrace primordial prevention strategies that prevents the penetration of risk factors into the population by intervening to stop the appearance of risk factors at the outset. “Primordial prevention has important implications in the relationship between socioeconomic circumstances and adult risk factors. Improved socio-economic conditions and population based prevention strategies have lowered, if not completely eradicated, the risk of rheumatic heart diseases. This disease affects the most productive members of society, namely those in adolescence and young adulthood,” he added.
While interacting with the Children and management committee of the Home Dr. Sushil said that a life course approach to primordial prevention means ensuring the availability of healthy food and promoting desirable eating habits in school going children in order to ensure they develop into adults aged 35 years with favourable risk profiles who can control their lipid levels without the need for statin drugs.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Arvind Jasrotia (Nodal Director, CHILDLINE/ Dean, Faculty of Law) said that since no one can succeed alone so primordial prevention in this area requires synergy of all stakeholders including local governments, health professionals, civil society and academia in order to ensure healthy lives and well being for all ages.
Others who were part of this kind initiative included Dr. Dhaneshwar Kapoor, Dr Parvinder Kaur and Dr Chakshu Mahajan. Paramedics and Volunteers comprised Kamal Sharma, Kashmiri Lal, Raghav Rajput Vikas Kumar, Rohit Khajuria (Cordinator, CHILDLINE), Nitan Sharma Gourav Sharma, Jagdeep Singh, Rajinder Singh, Vikas Sharma, Rahul Raina Aman Gupta, Akshay Kumar, Harvinder Singh, Amandeep Singh and Raj Kumar.
