JAMMU, Feb11: Member BJP National Executive and former state president of the party, Dr Nirmal Singh had a two days tour of Barmeen Kodli block of Chenani Constituency and took stock of the situation in this most backward area.
He was accompanied by BJP district president Udhampur, Dina Nath Bhagat. The villages visited by him during his tour included Khaulaban, Baleter, Salgaar, Baisakhi Dabar, Gadyal, Larh, Seri, Bindla, Leau, Kallarh, Lower and Upper Barmeen, Mani and Sarsoo.
After listening to the grievances of the people, Dr Singh expressed his shock over the plight of poor people including SCs and STs who have not been provided with basic amenities like drinking water, electricity, health care, road communication, quality education etc despite the fact that number of Central schemes were launched by Atal Behari led BJP Government for the upliftment of these weaker sections of the society during its rule.
Dr Singh alleged that previous State Government of Congress and PDP and present Coalition of Congress and NC have failed to register the poor people as BPL families, a pre-requisite for getting benefit of these schemes.
He said the villages of Seri, Panctar, Devli and Manni which are mostly inhabited by SCs and STs are without power supply and people are living in darkness. Those villages which Government claims to have been electrified have not been provided transformers, he added.
Dr Singh said the people of upper Barmeen are without the compensation for the land which has been acquired by the Government for construction of road under PMGSY. He said most of the schools are housed in damaged buildings and are without drinking water and electricity facilities.
The BJP leader assured the people that he will take up their demands with administration.
Jatinder Singh, Ishar Dass, ex Sarpanch, Jagdish Kumar Panch, Dev Raj Sharma Sarpanch and others also were also present during the tour.
