JAMMU, Aug 4: Member of Rajya Sabha and former Sadar-e-Riyasat, Dr Karan Singh has suggested the Union Ministry of Tourism to develop attractive tourist sites in Jammu region.
In a letter to Union Minister of State for Tourism, Dr Mahesh Sharma, Dr Karan Singh has said that apart from the famous Vaishno Devi Yatra, there is another area of the Jammu region, which presents rich opportunities for tourism development- Bhaderwah and Kishtwar.
Expressing his shock over the official statistics, according to which Jammu and Kashmir does not figure in the top ten tourist State, Dr Singh said that the prolonged civil unrest in the Valley has of course shattered the flourishing tourist industry in Kashmir but a number of attractive tourist in the Jammu region can also be developed for domestic and foreign tourists.
” Now that the Chamba-Bhaderwah route is operative, these areas could be developed as very attractive tourist destinations because of the beautiful natural scenery as well as the unique temples and pilgrimage sites. I suggest that your Ministry should pay special attention to this area, which also provides an alternative route into the Valley via Sinthan Pass,” the MP has said in his letter to the MoS Tourism and added that he wanted to asks a supplementary to the first question in today’s list regarding tourism, but was unable to do as the Question Hour was disrupted.
In addition, Dr Singh further says in the letter, Ladakh presents a unique experience because of its rare topography, its beautiful Buddhist Gompas and extraordinary mountain scenery and moreover there are alternative routes into Ladakh via Himachal Pradesh.
