KATHUA, Mar 4: BJP leaders all over the State were jubilant over signing of much talked about Shahpur Kandi Project agreement by the State Governments of Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir on the personnel intervention of Union Minister of State in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh.
The BJP leaders said that had Dr Jitendra Singh not taken the pains the agreement could not have been inked even this time too.
Expressing his jubilation and satisfaction over the signing of agreement MLA Kathua Rajiv Jasrotia said that the agreement will bring cheers on the faces of thousands of farmers who are eagerly looking towards the construction of Shahpur Kandi canal for decades together. He said by getting the agreement inked the BJP has fulfilled one of its main commitments with people of Kathau and Samba districts who will be main beneficiaries with the construction of canal.
He said Party took up the issue in Assembly forcefully and it was all with the positive support of Dr Jitendra Singh who represents Kathua -Doda Lok Sabha Constituency that this agreement became a reality.
BJP State general secretary, Dr Narinder Singh also expressed his satisfaction over the signing of agreement and said that all credit goes to Dr Jitendra Singh. He said the way developmental projects were brought by the Union Minister for the State like Rs 170 crore package for Devika in Udhampur, FM Radio Station for Udhampur, opening of passport facility at Udhampur, AIIMS, IIT, IIM and road Rs over 2800 crore road projects out of which Rs 1500 crore will be spent only in Doda-Kathua Constituency is really a great achievement.
BJP Kathua while expressing its happiness over the fresh agreement signed between J&K and Punjab Government over the Shahpur Kandi project to end the decades long dispute has brought cheers on the faces of thousands of farmers of the twin districts of Kathua and Samba.
While addressing press conference BJP district president Prem Nath Dogra said that the Memorandum of Understanding between Punjab and J&K with the efforts of MOS in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh, will go down in the annals of history with golden letters.
He said this is the yet another commitment which was made during the election by Dr Jitendra Singh that has been fulfilled and it has proved that the people of Kathua-Doda Constituency have elected a right man for right place. He said the project was pending since 1979 and successive State Governments did not show any interest for its construction with the result the farmers of the two districts were put to heavy loss and the fertile land in two districts had turned barren.
