‘No leniency for those attacking health workers’

NEW DELHI, Apr 24 : Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh today reviewed COVID-19 preparedness with Jammu & Kashmir medical fraternity through video conference, in which, among others, Financial Commissioner Health Atal Dulloo, senior officers of Union Territory government and heads of Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) and institutions including SKIMS participated.
At the outset, Dr. Jitendra Singh, on his behalf and on behalf of the Government of India, conveyed appreciation of the yeoman service rendered by the medical and health professionals as front – line warriors against Corona. He said, there will be no leniency for those attacking health workers who are performing their professional duties. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for showing extreme sensitivity towards the Health workers by finalising the union Cabinet decision to promulgate Ordinance for stringent punishment to anybody trying to attack or be aggressive against a health worker.
Dr Jitendra Singh complimented the medical fraternity of the UT, especially the Junior / Resident Doctors and Medical officers who are directly dealing with patients and also effectively fighting the Corona virus. He said, India has emerged as one of the front -line nations in the world to combat COVID 19. He said, J&K has emerged one of the top among all States and UTs in fighting the pandemic.
Dr. Jitendra Singh also re – emphasised the use of AROGYA SETU App in combating the COVID 19 and said, it had a special significance for health workers who were in the forefront and relatively more exposed. He said, the Modi Government was very concerned about the safety of the Medical and Healthcare workers and for this reason the Ordinance for protection of Health care workers had been brought.
On the UT Govt’s request for augmenting the availability of standardized PPE kits and other equipments, Dr Jitendra Singh said that J&K will be getting regular supply of PPE and testing kits for the corona virus. He dispelled the apprehensions, if any, and said, in a few days regular constant supply of PPE kits, Masks etc will start.
Dr Jitendra Singh also complimented J&K for being among the first to have started exclusive designated COVID hospitals.
Making a presentation on the preparedness of the UT, Financial Commissioner Health Atal Dulloo informed that till date there have been a total of 434 positive cases in the UT. Out of this 57 are from Jammu and 377 from Kashmir.
The Minister was informed that J&K is second only to Delhi in the whole country in testing of cases per million population. J&K is testing 818 persons per million population. About 80 zones in Kashmir and 15 in Jammu have been declared as containment zones.
The UT has also re-employed 126 retired Doctors, informed Dulloo and said , De- contamination tunnels are being set up in hospitals and walk in sample collection booths have been set up. All frontier personnel have been provided with masks and safety kits, he added. AYUSH Drugs and medicines are also being distributed to all frontline staff and people to boost their immunity.
