Srinagar, July 8 : Dr. Ali Jan Road—connecting two major hospitals in Srinagar—continues to present a dilapidated look due to the undue delay caused by the authorities in the repairs and subsequently the macadamization.
The locals told Excelsior that the authorities are not taking note of the bad condition of the road even as they said that the patients who have to reach the hospitals, continue facing tough time.
“Earlier, the concerned department was carrying out the necessary repairs of the drainage along the road; firstly, it was said that the works will be finished by February, but then it got all delayed,” Abdul Rashid, a resident said.
The residents said that after witnessing delays after delays, the work was then completed by June end while the macadamization was seen nowhere.
“After the delay, now the R&B has started macadamization, but it is doing the same patch-wise while the patients and commuters continue to face immense hardships,” the locals said.
The road currently is full of potholes while the digging that was earlier carried out is also making commuting on the vital road difficult.
“This is the height that the authorities are not concerned about making the road fully motorable despite knowing how important the road stretch is; more than 9 months have passed since the work was started and the condition is the same,” the locals said.
Officials told Excelsior they have started the macadamization work of the road and that in the next few days the same will be completed, however, they said that they will be macadamizing only one side of the road.
“We have macadamized some portion of the road while as the rest will be done in the days to come; we will be macadamizing only side of the road because the other side of the road is where the works were carried out,” Chief Engineer R&B Rafiq Ahmad Rafiq said.
He said that if the other side will be macadamized, there will remain chances of road caving in which will then further aggravate the situation.
“So, we have decided to wait for that side to be macadamized and start the same after the passage of sometime so that the base of the road gets strong enough ensuring the macadamization to hold for hassle-free movement of the traffic,” he said.
