LEH, Nov 2: Ladakh Affairs and Cooperative Minister Chering Dorjey Lakrook today laid the foundation stone of construction and upgradation of 4.70 kilometers long internal road of Martselang which will be completed within next two years at a cost of Rs 6.87 crore under Central Road Fund scheme. This road will be dedicated on the name of late PT Chow, who had struggled a lot in achieving the scheme for Martselang village.
The Minister urged upon the implementing agency to complete the road within stipulated time so that the people of Martselang as well as the people of Shang and Chokdo besides the trekkers could take benefit of it.
He Minister further said that a large hydel power project between Shara and Igoo on Indus will be coming up with its power station near Martselang will benefit the people of this area. Besides a two lane motorable bridge at the existing Choglamsar bridge with a superior road towards Hemis Monastery via Chushot is all set to come up very shortly which would also benefit the people of this area, the Minister added.
The Councilor of the area Jamyang Tsering Namgyal said that this road scheme has been a long standing demand which took several years to achieve. Now it is the responsibility of the implementing agency to complete the road within time frame assuring of fullest cooperation from the people of Martselang in the road construction, he added.
He also projected demands of the people that included opening and upgradation of road from Power House to Jabak, delimitation of Panchayat Halqa and early completion of land allotment cases of the villagers under Igoo-Phey Command Area.
District Superintending Engineer, Tashi Chhombel on this occasion highlighted the salient features of this road and assured that it will be completed within next 2 years.
Among those present on the occasion were EC Agriculture Tsering Wangdus, EC Education Dorjey Motup, EC Minority Affairs Mumtaz Hussain, SDM Kharu Tsering Motup and the people of Martselang.
To mark the occasion, a cultural program was also presented by the people of Martselang.
