JAMMU Mar 7: Minister for Cooperatives and Ladakh Affairs, Chering Dorjay has emphasized on strengthening of cooperative movement by providing appropriate funding to the cooperative societies in both the districts of Ladakh region.
Addressing the officers during a review meeting, he said that steps taken in recent meeting with officials of National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) at Delhi to review the status of Integrated Cooperative Development Projects are going to play a decisive role in giving a new direction in Ladakh’s cooperative movement.
The Minister said that threadbare discussions were held on several issues related to funding of societies with 25% subsidy. He said that for promotion and preservation of Apricot and Seabuck thorn berry, collection of pulp and juice, a tetra packing unit will also be established in Leh. Funding will be allocated by NCDC to the cooperative societies of both the districts to flourish their business units and generate employment to the youth of the region, he added.
To cater the vegetable shortage in the region and to make it self-reliable, NCDC will also provide financial help to the societies in setting up green houses on a large scale and need of vegetable will be addressed, he added.
The Minister further said that the financial help will be given to the functional cooperative societies through NCDC to create and setting of various units of fisheries, poultry farms and dairy farms not only to minimize the shortage but also export to other parts of the country.
