JAMMU, Nov 14: Sixteen accident victims were laid to rest in their native village Mangota in District Doda.
Thousands of people gathered at village Mangota and took part in the last rites of the accident victims.
It is pertinent to mention here that on November 12 this year, pal of gloom descended on village Mangota in mountainous Doda district as 16 of its inhabitants including 4 minor children were killed when the overloaded passenger vehicle they were traveling in skidded off the road and plunged into deep gorge near Kheelani on Batote-Kishtwar Highway today afternoon.
The lone survivor Taimoor, son of Mohammad Akram Wani of village Mangota, District Doda was shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where he is undergoing treatment.
The accident took place as the driver was talking on mobile phone.
The tragedy has put all the concerned authorities in the dock for being non-serious towards blatant violation of rules especially for using mobile phones while driving by the operators of the private passenger vehicles in hilly areas.
