DMO, staff attacked by mafia in Tawi, vehicle damaged

JAMMU, June 5: District Mineral Officer (DMO) Jammu and his staff members were attacked by the mafia when they had gone to Tawi river to seize vehicles involved in illegal mining late this evening.
Official sources said that acting on specific information, the team from Geology and Mining Department led by DMO Jammu, Rakesh Kumar went to Nikki Tawi near Badyal Brahamana at around 10 pm. Then suddenly, over two dozen people intercepted the Bolero vehicle of the DMO and started stone pelting. Then some staff members tried to run away but they were chased and beaten up with lathis. Two employees Bharat Bhushan and Sunil Mittal were injured in attack.
DMO told the Excelsior that with the alertness of driver, he managed to escape unhurt. He said it was darkness and 3-4 tractor trolleys were being loaded in Tawi using machine. They had not taken police assistance with them and were trapped amidst stoning from all sides. DMO said his official vehicle was also damaged by mafia men. He said an FIR was lodged with Miran Sahib police after the incident.
