DM bans use of below 50-micron polythene, bovine transportation

JAMMU, July 20: District Magistrate Jammu, Sushma Chauhan today ordered strict enforcement of ban on  manufacture, stocking, distribution, sale and use of polythene carry bags, plastic sheets or like, cover made of plastic packaging and multilayered packaging and multilayered packaging less than fifty Microns thickness as provided under the Government  SRO 45, of 2017.
As per the DM order, the Government SRO 243 of 2011 and SRO-353 of 2016, has designated several officers for seizure of the banned items. They are District Officers and above of Pollution Control Board; Sub-Divisional Magistrate/ Tehsildars/ Executive Magistrate; Chief Executive Officers of Tourism Development Authorities; Health Officers /Khilafwargi Officers/ Executive Officers of Municipal Bodies; Wildlife Wardens / Range Officer of Wildlife Department; Range Officers and above of Forest Department; all the Deputy Superintendents of Police Department/ SDPOs working under District Superintendent of Police and Traffic Superintendents of Police; all the SHOs of Police Department working under District Superintendent of Police; Block Development Officers and Panchayat Inspectors of Rural Development Department  and Assistant Directors and above of Forest Protection Force.
“Therefore..In exercise of the powers vested in me under Section 144 I.P.C.I hereby directed that bans imposed on the manufacture, stocking distribution, sale and use of polythene carry bags plastic sheets or like, cover made of plastic packaging and multilayered packaging less than fifty microns in thickness within the territorial jurisdiction of District Jammu and all the officers of District Jammu are hereby authorized to seize the banned items and deposit the same in the office of State Pollution Control Board, Jammu who shall dispose off the seized material as per the norms” the order stated.
This order shall come into force with an immediate effect and shall remain in force for a period of two months from date of its issue or if the order is rescinded, whichever be earlier.
Meanwhile, District Magistrate has ordered ban on transportation of bovine animals such as cow, oxen, bulls, calves etc from Jammu to other districts except with the permission from District Magistrate/ Additional District Magistrate in this regard.
The restrictions have been imposed as a preventive measure for a period of two months to curb illegal transportation of bovine animals in the district which disturbs public peace and tranquility.
