DLSA sets up help desks, holds awareness camps during Jhiri Mela

JAMMU, Nov 23: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Jammu under the aegis of J&K SLSA held mega legal awareness camps during Jhiri Mela with installation of 3 help desks and deployment of a team of Retainer Lawyers, Para legal volunteers and members of Model Legal Literacy Clubs to facilitate the visitors who thronged the event from across the country.
Jhiri Mela, which is being held every year on Kartik Purnima at Baba Jitto Temple in village Jhiri, witnessed an overwhelming participation of over six lakh pilgrims paying obeisance at the religious spot.
Pertinently, more than one lakh pilgrims visited the help desks who were educated about their fundamental rights and duties by DLSA.
DLSA team spread wide awareness through projectors, videos, awareness lectures and Nukad Nataks and made the people aware about various Central and State Government Welfare Schemes.
Secretary DLSA Naushad Ahmed Khan along with retainer lawyers Deepali Kapoor, Kaiser Parveen and team of PLVs and members of Model Legal Literacy Clubs camped at the mela site till culmination of the Mega Legal Awareness Camps.
A pledge was also taken together, on the occasion, to make Jammu clean, green, Beautiful, plastic and polythene free. The participants were educated on several important issues including ban on SUP and Polythene Bags, use of Renewable Cotton Jute Bags, do not litter, cleanliness, minimizing generation of Solid Waste, fight against drug menace, cleanliness of River Tawi and Ranbir Canal, refrain from polluting water bodies, judicious use of water, plantation drives, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, domestic violence, resolving disputes through Lok Adalats and Mediation etc.
