Diwali celebrations continue to pour in

JAMMU, Oct 24: The celebrations of festival of lights “Diwali” continued to pour in from various parts of the Jammu province.
Diwali festival was celebrated with fervour at Ved Mandir Bal and Balika Niketan at Ambphalla. The children of Bal and Balika Niketan were gifted with new dresses, fire crackers and sweets.
On the eve of Diwali festival, Canal Road Walkers Welfare Association arranged today a get-to-gather function of all walkers on the walkers track. All walkers and other people from the adjoining localities of Canal, including men, women and children, joined the celebration program. Light refreshment of puri, halwa and tea was served to the people who assembled there. Prof MS Nargal, President and Advocate Vijay Sharma, general secretary were also present.
Rangloli Making Competition was organised by Sky High India Social Organisation on the occasion of Deepawali with a theme ‘World peace and brotherhood’. The programme was coordinated and sponsored by Computer Point Technologies. The programme started with Rangoli making competition wherein students from different educational institutions participated and displayed their talent. Akshay of Government High School Udhampur got first position whereas Simran of Indira Memorial High School bagged second position, Shivanshi of Kendriya Vidhayala No 1 claimed third position while Pragya of Delhi Public School and Rishita of Indira Memorial School secured consolation prizes. Prizes were distributed by the chief guest Jiven Lata Gupta, Chairperson, Research and Studies in Communication Education and Technology Cooperative Limited. Later, Aman Kalsotra, social activist along with members of Sky High India Social Organisation distributed candles and sweets among deprived children.
On the occasion of Diwali-cum-Amavasya, special prayers were offered at Ariwun temple at Kathua and Hatli Kathua, where in hundreds of people participated. The Diwali festival was also celebrated in the temples at Purmandal, Utterbani, Devka and Ramnagar.
On the eve of Diwali, a Hawan Puja with chanting of Vedic mantras was performed in Faculty of Agriculture, SKUAST-Jammu, Chatha. The Hawan was performed for the well being and further development of the Varsity after the havoc caused by the flash floods. On the occasion, VC SKUAST Jammu Dr PK Sharma, Dean Faculty of Agriculture Dr JP Sharma, Director Education Dr RM Bhagat, Director Extension Dr KS Risam, Director Research Dr VK Vali, president Non-Teaching Association BN Singh, president Teaching Association Dr Vikas Sharma, HoDs of various divisions, senior faculty members, non-teaching staff and all the students of the FoA were present.
