RAMBAN/BHADERWAH, Nov 12: Former Union Health Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad today alleged that some divisive forces were hell bent to engineer polarization  and disturb peace in Chenab region.
Addressing public meetings at Figsoo, Tanta, Seeru, Sewa, Dessa and  Charota in Ramban, Inderwal and Bhaderwah constituencies today,  Mr Azad cautioned the people to  remain vigilant against the forces which are hell bent to engineer polarization  and dividing people on communal lines.
Lambasting the divisive forces for widening the gulf between communities and the region, Mr Azad said systematic and planned attempts by these forces have been made to disturb the atmosphere  of peace and harmony in Chenab region adding that people of this region have the capability to see through  the real designs of such elements.
“People need to understand who benefits from the politics of polarization,” said Mr Azad adding that Congress Party and its leadership have spent their lives to foster harmony and peace between the people of various religions, communities and regions.
Urging the people of the State in general and Chenab region in particular to vote decisively in favour of the Congress Party, Azad said  that Congress-led Coalition Government between 2006-08 gave a new paradigm of development and governance to the State which was characterised by all-round and equitable development, efficiency, transparency and people-friendly image.
Asserting that the Congress-led coalition successfully broke the myth that development is a utopian dream, AICC leader said that fruits of development were successfully percolated equitably to all the regions of the State, especially the neglected and marginalized areas. “We made ‘development’ as a narrative and discourse in the State and dispersed the fruits of development in every nook and corner of the State”, said Azad.
Mr Azad, who was accompanied by AICC general secretary Ambika Soni said that  if voted to power ‘development’ will again become the buzzword in the State and all the regions, sub-regions, remote and backward areas of the State will witness massive push on the front of infrastructure building and developmental activity.
Expressing confidence that the people of Chenab region will stand united against the conspiracies being hatched by outside forces to divide them, Azad said that Congress has given a sense of belongingness and identity to the backward and neglected region of the State, called Chenab region.
“I have full faith in the wisdom and maturity of the people of Chenab valley who  will not let vested interests weaken their political strength & advantage gained after years of neglect & deprivation”, Mr Azad said while underlining the need to further accelerate the process of progress and development in the Chenab region. Azad assured the people that yet another united show will enable him to fulfill his dream of converting Chenab valley into a “Model Region” of the State.
“I have a dream of making a modern and progressive Chenab valley which will be an example for the State and if people show their confidence in me, I will give them the desired results”,  Azad said.
Asking the people to choose that party which has the track record of initiating the developmental activities, Mr Azad said that those who are selling dreams and are bent upon dividing the people are the real enemies of Chenab valley.
Pointing to the highest number of new administrative units which Chenab region recently got, Azad said that it is the pressure and persuasion of Congress Party which made this possible for the Chenab region, adding further that he and his Party will continue to raise their voice for Chenab valley with greater resolve and vigour in future also.
He further said that Rattle Power Project and other Hydel projects which have been identified on river Chenab will be taken up for execution immediately, if people give a decisive mandate to the Congress Party, adding that concerted efforts will be made to make J&K a power-surplus State.
Azad said that already initiated measures to tap the tourism potential will further be reinforced to realize the full potential of tourism in Chenab valley, adding that it can become a huge source of income and employment generation for the youth of the region.
Party candidates G M Saroori, Ashok Bhagat and Mohd Sharief Niaz (MLAs)  were also present on the occasion.
