SRINAGAR, Sept 23: To review the summary revision of Electoral Rolls, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Shailendra Kumar convened a meeting of all Deputy Commissioners of Valley including Leh and Kargil districts who are also District Election Officers of their respective districts here today.
Summary revision of Electoral Rolls in Jammu and Kashmir will be taken up with respect to January 1, 2014 as qualifying date while the draft electoral rolls will be published on September 25, 2013 and will be available for the public to check for ensuring the presence of their names and corrections, if needed, to be carried out in the particulars and can fill the claims and objections between September 25,, 2013 and October 24, 2013. The disposal of claims and objections will be carried out by November 23, 2013.
The Divisional Commissioner urged for organising special campaigns with booth level agents of political parties for receiving claims and objections on October 1, 7 and 14, 2013 while reading of relevant section of Electoral Rolls in Graham Sabha and Local Bodies for inclusion of names, deletion of names, will be carried out from October 3 to October 9, 2013.
The Divisional Commissioner also emphasised for updating the data base, merging of photograph and updating of control tables besides preparation and printing of supplementary list between October 24, 2013 to January 4, 2014, while the final Electoral Roll will be published on January 6, 2014 as per the schedule prescribed by the Election Commission of India.
Mr. Kumar also exhorted upon the Deputy Commissioners to conduct special camps for electoral roll revision besides convening of meetings with the concerned MLAs and representatives of the political parties for revision of Electoral Rolls. He also stressed for achieving cent percent issuance of Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPICS) in every district.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Commissioners of Srinagar, Baramulla, Bandipora, Kargil and Kulgam, Deputy Chief Election Officer, Joint Director Information, Kashmir besides Tehsildars of South and North, Srinagar and BLOs of district Srinagar while other Deputy Commissioners attended the meeting through video conference.
