SRINAGAR, Apr 12: Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Shalindra Kumar reviewed the Parliamentary Elections preparedness through video conference with District Election Officers of Kupwara, Kargil and Leh here today.
He discussed measures for ferrying the poll staff and carriage of poll equipment to far flung areas through helicopter services.
Mr. Kumar urged upon the District Election Officers to ensure all the arrangements for facilitating election staff and carriage of equipment to the far flung areas of the districts which remain cut off from the district headquarters due to heavy snowfall.
The District Election Officers of Kupwara, Kargil and Leh informed the Divisional Commissioner that 14 polling centres in Kupwara, 13 in Kargil and 5 in Leh remain cut off because of bad weather and helicopter service is essential for sending election staff and equipments in these areas.
The Divisional Commissioner directed the District Election Officers to complete the snow clearance from the roads of far flung areas including Zojila National Highway upto April 30, 2014. In this connection, he directed District Election Officers to communicate with Chief Engineer Beacon so that the roads are opened for traffic and the elections are held without any difficulty.
