SRINAGAR, Nov 15: Divisional authorities today issued travel advisories to the people intending to visit the Ladakh and some of the far-flung areas of North Kashmir districts of Kupwara and Bandipora on November 17 and 18 due to the forecast of snow and rainfall on these two days.
The divisional authorities have also issued instructions to the district police and civil administration so that nobody travels to the areas which are likely to be badly hit by rains and snowfall on November 17 and 18.
Meanwhile, Srinagar recorded the chilliest night of the season as the mercury plummeted below the freezing point for the first time during this winter. The minimum temperature was recorded as minus 0.6 degrees Celsius two degrees below the normal temperature. The day temperature was recorded as 18.4 degrees Celsius.
“On the basis of forecast of rain/snowfall during the intervening night of November 17 and 18 in higher reaches of the Valley issued by the Meteorological Department and keeping in view the unpredictability of the weather, in higher reaches, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon has ordered restrictions on movement of vehicles on different routes connecting Srinagar with Kupwara, Bandipora and Kargil districts of the Kashmir division,” said Aamir Ali, Officer on Special Duty with Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir.
Aamir said that people should not travel on Kargil-Zanskar, Srinagar-Zojila-Kargil, Kupwara-Machil/Tangdhar and Bandipora-Gurez roads on November 17 and 18 as a precautionary measure.
In the order, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir has directed the Deputy Commissioners, Senior Superintendents of Police and Sub-Divisional Magistrates along with the traffic police officials to take appropriate measures to ensure strict implementation of the instructions in order to safeguard life and property of the general public. He has appealed the general public to defer their travel plans to these areas, in their own interest.
