Director Agriculture briefs farmers on new scheme

JAMMU, Mar 16: A one day Workshop-cum-Seminar on Advances in the Field of Precision Irrigation Techniques was inaugurated by Director Agriculture Jammu P. S. Rathore, at Krishi Bhawan Jammu today for the technology dissemination among the farmers, officers, technical staff and field functionaries of the Agriculture Department, who participated in good numbers from different Districts of Jammu Division.
Rathore spoke about the vision of ‘Har Khet Ko Paani’ envisaged under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana and the objective of expansion of cultivable area under assured irrigation and ensuring ‘per drop more crop’ by better on farm water management. The Scheme, he said, is equally significant for un-irrigated areas and the irrigated areas as on the one hand it aims to expand and increase irrigation facilities it also aims to enhance on farm water usage efficiency by use of precision irrigation technologies. The participating farmers were exhorted upon to get full advantage of the workshop to update their knowledge and adopt latest, efficient and water saving irrigation Techniques through use of Micro Irrigation Systems that include Sprinkler Irrigation, Drip Irrigation etc.He said that different technologies on precision irrigation and improved on farm water use efficiency will be propagated under the programme by creating frontline demonstrations throughout Jammu Division.
K.K. Sharma, Deputy Director of Agriculture (Central) Jammu listed the various water saving technologies and apprised that only 40% area in State is Under Irrigation and there is great potential to increase the area under irrigation through proper implementation of Prime Ministers Flagship Programme PMKSY.
