JAMMU, Dec 2: Director Rural Sanitation, Charandeep Singh, today held a virtual Gram Sabha and interacted with the PRIs and the beneficiaries in all the 4291 Panchayats across the Union Territory of J&K.
The virtual meeting discussed the sustainability of Open Defecation Free policy and the disposal of applications pertaining to Individual Household Latrine (IHHL) construction, if any, under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Grameen.
A statement said that the Director Rural Sanitation issued necessary directions to the officers to redress the genuine demands of the people related to IHHL construction on priority.
“It is imperative to assess the gaps, wherever existing, to achieve the IHHL saturation in all villages of J&K,” the Director Rural Sanitation, Charandeep Singh, said.
During the virtual meeting, the Sarpanches, Panches and the BDC members were all praise for the effective implementation of SBM-G on the ground.
“The sanitation has improved drastically in our villages,” one of the Sarpanches from Kakapora area of Pulwama said.
The women PRI members from Anantnag, Kupwara, Baramulla, Samba, and Doda among other districts also expressed similar views about the implementation of the SBM-G on the ground.
“Our mothers, daughters, and sisters don’t have to feel embarrassed now as we have been benefitted by the IHHLs under SBM-G immensely,” one of the women Sarpanches said.
During the virtual tour, it also came to fore that in some special cases, some migrant families and recently separated families have also applied for new IHHL indicating the need of construction of IHHL in some of the left-out areas.
After listening to the community members, the Director assured that no family, whether migrant or newly added, would be left behind and asked the ACPs, DPOs, and BDOs to verify the authenticity of the applicants by next week.
While listening to the PRIs and the beneficiaries, the Director said that the session served as a platform for community members to voice their concerns, share insights, and actively participate in the decision-making process related to the rural sanitation.
