JAMMU, July 8: Director Horticulture Jammu, Ram Sevak here today briefed the farmers about various centrally and UT sponsored schemes of the department.
During an interaction with farmers at village Marallian in R.S Pura the Director urged the farmers to come forward and get associated with Horticulture Department to avail benefits on different components like protected cultivation, water harvesting tanks, drip irrigation, custom hiring centres, vermi-compost units, strawberry plantation, tools/implements etc for up-liftment of their socio-economic status.
The Director also said that keeping in view the suitable agro-climatic conditions, there is immense potential for horticulture crops in the area which must be tapped. “Apart from enhancing the income of farmers, the plantation of fruit crops enhances the green cover, mitigates pollution and also conserves water,” he maintained and also started a plantation drive by planting a sapling of Taiwan Guava for compact plantation in a farmer’s field there in the presence of Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu, Ashwani Sharma, Horticulture Development Officer, Dheeraj Sharma and farmers.
