LEH: Dec, 9: The scientific endeavor of Defense Institute of High Altitude and Research (DIHAR) targeting both local and armed forces are contributing towards socio-economic development of the area, said Lieutenant Governor, Ladakh, R K Mathur during his visit to DIHAR under Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) today.
Appreciating the overall contributions of DIHAR, LG Mathur suggested preparations of the Project Reports for polycarbonate greenhouses based on the complete network to cater to the vegetable and fruit requirements of both locals as well as armed forces; commercialization process of white kernels apricot (Raktsey Karpo) by local entrepreneurs, and solar energy power plant to cater to power, water, and heating needs at the household level in scattered habitations.
Later, LG Ladakh was detailed about the DIHAR by its Director, Dr. OP Chaurasia, accompanied by Senior Scientist, DIHAR Dr. Drojey Angchuk, Head Animal Science Division, DRDO Col. Manoj Batra and concerned scientists.
LG was briefed about various versions of greenhouses from trench houses to polythene to polycarbonate greenhouses, their improved version, and their functionalities.
Earlier, Dr. Dorjay Anchuk briefed LG, Mathur about the overall function, research studies, and achievements of laboratories of DIHAR Leh through a power-point presentation.
While in a series of meeting with delegations, Sarpanch Kyungyam Nyoma, Block Development Chairmen of Leh & adjoining areas, and Nambardar Tar Khaltse called on LG Ladakh with their representations.
