NEW DELHI, Dec 2: Renowned RTI activist and vice president of District Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC) Jammu, Balvinder Singh met Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Chairman of National Commission for Minorities (NCM) at his office, here and updated him with the information received under RTI which reveals a concerning lethargy in the J&K administration’s approach in addressing the Sikh issues and solving the community’s demand pending since long.
Balvinder once again took up the issue of providing ex-gratia amount to the NoK’s of those killed in 1989 riots in Jammu and showed resentment that this issue is pending before the Jammu and Kashmir administration for the last two and half years.
Iqbal Singh Lalpura while acknowledging the importance of the issues assured Balvinder Singh that he would take up the issues and send fresh reminders to the J&K administration, urging them to expedite the resolution of issues affecting Sikh community. It was emphasized that numerous representations had already been submitted at the highest levels, underlining the community’s concern and aspiration.
Lalpura further stated that he has got list of schools from one group of J&K where they have given list of number of students interested for studying Punjabi in different areas and he is trying his best to write to the concerned department for providing Punjabi teachers in those schools at the earliest.
The NCM Chairman expressed his dedication to ensuring that the concerns of the Sikh community are heard and addressed promptly. He underscored the importance of collaborative efforts between the NCM and regional authorities to create an environment that respects and fulfills the demands of minority communities.
Lalpura further stated that it is anticipated that the NCM will play a pivotal role in facilitating communication and expediting actions to address the challenges faced by the Sikh community in J&K.
